Hi. I just did a fresh install. I SSHed in and did updated raspbian with apt. There was a lot. Is this necessary or is it frowned upon?

It is expected that breakage may occur.. YMMV
Await official MoOde Updates... as these are configured for current Kernel and modifications :-)

As a Linux user I kept doing the same until weird things started to happen on moode. Update only via moode web panel.
