Octave Records/Radio
#1
Hi All

Has anyone else come across Octave Records/Octave Radio. You can access the radio from psaudio.com.

The recording studio is completely digital, and they release their recordings on SACD.
What I find interesting (not that I know about this stuff) is that they apparently use a different method to digitally capture the recording sessions. DSP instead of PCM.
It means that they can only record what comes out of the mixing desk, and can't do any tweaks in Pro tools after.

They say, and I think it's true, that in addition to the fidelity (although the radio is only 320 kbps) the result is a much more live sound.

Has anyone else checked them out?

That’s DSD, actually, and not unique to them. A quick Internet search will show you who’s recording and selling music in DSD format.

Their radio stream is an interesting find, thanks.

Kent

Right, that one!
I also came across a free DSD download album from Chesky Records. Although I personally find it a bit bass heavy.
