Greetings - and version 8 to 9 upgrade advice

Hello and Greetings from New England.
I've been using a RPi as a media player for many years (I can't remember if I started with a first or second generation Pi).
I used Kodi for a long time but after purchasing a HiFiBerry add-on board for my RPi3 a couple of years ago, I switched to Moode for listening to music.
I recently realized that I'm still running version 8 although I now know that version 9 has been out for awhile (I'm not sure how I missed that).
I did a quick search of these forums and it seems a little unclear whether I can restore a version 8 backup into version 9.
Can someone please clarify?
I don't currently have a spare microSD card so don't want to lose anything from my current configuration before upgrading.

Welcome and fear not, an 8 backup goes nicely into a fresh 9 installation.

With this constraint

Your best bet is to wait until you get a few SD Cards because there is no guarantee that the update will 100% work.
