What would you like to do about it ?  Your options are:
   Y or I  : install the package maintainer's version
   N or O  : keep your currently-installed version
D     : show the differences between the versions
Z     : start a shell to examine the situation
The default action is to keep your current version.
*** Default Playlist.m3u (Y/I/N/O/D/Z) [default=N] ?
I have deleted the default playlist on those players, but not on the one that updated successfully. Could that be the issue?

I think you got it in one.

That looks like the culprit.

I should be able to repro.

I pushed an updated script that should prevent the moode-player package install fail due to user deleted Default
Playlist.

Today I tried to update my moOde (9.3.3) installation using the GUI. It failed after the Kernel stage. After reading this thread, I used the manual updater. The fail script reported by @the_bertrum still happens, but after responding to the script, the update completed successfully.

Update: The in-place update was not so successful. It completed fine, but the UI had no playlist, no audio source showing (just MoOde) and no clickable menu in the top left of the display. I tried restoring my most recent backup, but that did not help. I decided to reflash the SSD and apply my backup to that.
