Moode hangs up
#1
Moode v9.3.6 - Pi 3b+

I have just attempted to start Moode and at first it all seems OK, but after about a minute of startup, and the local browser aparently starting normally, the system hangs up.

The green led on the Pi has stopped flashing and is on continuously.
The mouse (which did work previously) has stopped.

I cannot connect via my web browser
I cannot connect via SSH or FTP (which I could before)

I can ping the IP address

Since I have no connection with the device, the only way to restart is to power off unsafely (risky, I know) but there is no other way.
After doing this, on booting up again, the same thing happens, and, as I post this, it has been about 1 hour in this state.

I should point out that, prior to this happening for the first time, it was working OK was powered down safely.

My music library is on an sd card/usb adapter and consists of around 80GB/ 1200 albums/ 11500 tracks

Hi, sorry to hear moOde does not work as expected for you.

Just to be sure, have you followed the official setup guide to prepare your moOde installation?

Yes I did. In fact it was working fine until this morning.
I have just come back to it and the green led was finally off. So that's about 3 - 3½ hrs after starting. so I then tried to use it.

Web browser connected OK
SSH connected OK

Then tried to check the library and the green led came back on and it's back to nothing working.

I give up. I can't help thinking that there's an issue with the sd card, so I'm going to power down and try a smaller usb drive with a subset of my library.

OK, now I really do give up. just tried a usb drive with about a quarter of my music library. Library update has now been going for nearly 30min. Green led on continuous and moode and RPi unusable from anywhere.
I'm sorry but clearly Moode is not fit for (my) purpose, so I will go and look for an alternative that works.

If you try, and reach again a working state, before doing anything else that could result again in the system frozen, pick the startup log and post it here in a <CODE> block.

The log can be viewed via the SSH command moodeutl -l or (from the browser's connection) downloaded via the Logs section in System Config, or via Menu, System info from any of the Config screens. The startup log will be at the end of System info output.

Is your moOde installation stable if this drive is disconnected and you play only radio stations or music files on your SDcard (the Stereo Test file if none other)?

Regards,
Kent

PS - whenever someone reports problems with a bare system I suspect the power supply and/or the cabling between it and the Pi. Adding a USB drive increases the likelihood of problems if the power supply is sketchy.

I see something very weird: the primary DNS is outside the network mask.
This should not make any difference, except for radio streams, eventually, but...
Then, I would also try disabling some of the watchdogs, as it seems you need none; after all it is a Pi3...

also, you have the logs to ram, and also /tmp on ram... as your Pi is a 1GB RAM, that could make it struggle, especially "after some time"...

Removed the usb drive and it hung up again.
Power supply is Raspberry Pi 3A which has worked perfectly OK up til now, with a usb drive.

Primary DNS is the default Virgin Media DNS and I don't use radio streams.
No idea what the watchdogs are or how to disable them.

OK, I have now given up. The RPi hangs up within 30 sec of the local browser starting.

I may now re-flash the boot sd card if I can remember the audio/hdmi settings I needed to get it working in the first place, or I may just try a different player.

You can make a backup prior to reflashing.
Problem being: if there is something weird in your settings, restoring the backup would bring that s**t back in...
I would go for a clean re-flash; then set things up again, manually. Checking at every step - that is: not do more than one change at a time, reboot, and clear that setting-change out as good-to-go-with.

I have re-flashed with v9.3.7
I hadn't realised that I could make a backup, but I agree, that could just start the problem all over again.

All I need now is to find the time to start over.
