If you're refering to https://carthing.spotify.com/ it seems a good way to control Spotify whilst driving if you don't have Android Auto or the Apple equivalent, so anyone in the car can control Spotify without potentially needing to use someone elses phone.
It connects to someones phone and uses their premium account and phone data plan to stream music, the Car Thing is just a control point. Seems a good idea and is available for free at the moment, in the US only, you just pay shipping. I am not in the US otherwise I would get one. Would I pay £80 plus shipping for one? No.
