Problem: Pi Zero 2W does not connect with wifi
#1
Hi,

I used the Pi Imager to flash Moode on a SD card for a Pi zero 2W. But when running this, the Pi does not connect to wifi.
Using the Pi Imager I did set the correct name and password for the wifi and enabled SSH. But no connection.
I tried all versions of Moode (64bit 9.3.6, 32bits and 64bits 8.3.9), but none of them worked.
Other equipment like my computers and even an ESP32C6 can connect to wifi using the same name and password. So what is going on here?
The router is a TP-Link Archer C7 (v5) with OpenWRT on it. Can that be the problem?

I tried so many things, but I do not know what else to try anymore. Any suggestions?

Do your Router logs show an association attempt from the Pi?

I did connect a monitor and keyboard to the Pi Zero 2W. When starting up a lot of text is showing on the screen. I'm not experienced with Linux systems so I do not know what to look for.
And I do not know how to get this log into a file so that I can show it here.

(Can I connect it to my desktop computer somehow and start a SSH using PuTTY or someting like that?)

I was referring to the WiFi log on your TP-Link Router.

There has been more RPi2 networking weirdness as of late. Remember that issue where an RPi2 and only a 2 would timeout on unnecessary Deezer IPv6 requests and none of the other RPi’s? It seems to me there’s a Linux kernel issue with the RPi2’s.

Great if you can sort it out but if you can afford it, try getting a newer RPi for a few bucks.

Ah, sorry, didn't read it correctly.

I checked the router log. When booting the Pi Zero 2W there is not activity at all on the router. I tried with fresh SD installs and I tried reboots. I also tried with the Pi very close to the router. No activity at all.

What would be a good one? I like the Pi Zero 2W for its low power. A Pi 4 already is so much overkill. I do not like this to be powered on for 24/7.

If the Router WiFi log shows no association attempt from the Pi the only other option for troubleshooting is to reboot the Pi and after it's fully booted connect an Ethernet cable and log in via SSH an terminal.

Then post the moode startup log.

The log can be viewed via the SSH command moodeutl -l or downloaded via the Logs section in System Config, or via Menu, System info from any of the Config screens. The startup log will be at the end of System info output.

It’s true, it will set you back €7 or €8 per year. I don’t know of an alternative with as low of a power consumption as the 2W.

Well, the Pi Zereo 2W does not have an internet cable connector. So I would need some adapter which I do not have. I can not connect the USB OTG to my desktop?
