I reinstalled a new copy of Moode. Updated things via the sudo command. Tried a different power supply. Still no joy. Then, on checking the audio, I changed the volume type to Fixed 0db. Success! I've just reinstalled Moode onto my Pi4 & notice this setting defaults to software (?)

Yes the default is Software volume at level 0 for first use. We wouldn't want Fixed 0dB as the default otherwise if user doesn't notice than all of a sudden full volume :-0
