Problem: App. Freezing on iPad & iPhone
#11
Since my last post I installed iOS 18.4.1 on my iPhone, and that appears to work OK with MoOde 9.3.2(+patch).

Maybe try setting the mDNS to IPv4 only? Clutching at straws...

Thanks for the advice so far folks. I've now disconnected the Pi & I'm taking it home (It normally resides in our holiday home) to try it there with the different router etc.

Do you use any extensions like web filters/blockers etc? If so, disable those either for the moode website or completely. See if that makes any difference.

I tend to disable extensions for my local services like moode, there's no need for them and they may impact on performance too.

Not knowingly...how would I check for such things please?

I'm now back home, plugged the Pi in, set the wireless to a different router, same problem! My home Mac Mini works fine, so does my Macbook here, so does my Lenovo pad. iPad & iPhone don't. Now I know the iPad was working fine with this a few weeks ago because I'd set up a new HAT Hi-FiBerry Digi 2 Pro here, using iPad on the wireless connection. This really doesn't make any sense to me.

If I run MoOde on, say, the Macbook, select a music file & play, Moode appears on the iPad with the album artwork appearing in the background. It lets me click on the USB music folder, then if I click again to access the album files, there's a delay of about five seconds (not when I'm using the other means) but then the whole lot freezes & I can't select anything. However, interestingly, it lets me select configure, and move between the various settings, select library etc., it just freezes when I'm trying to select the music files. Then I can't select anything.

Cont. Since being home, we've tried my wife's two iPhones, her old iPad, & it's the same. Her works PC, my old Thinkpad PC, & her works Google phone all work just fine. This is definitely restricted to devices running Apple's iOS operating system., & it's something to do with accessing the SSD attached via USB to the Pi.

Very mysterious. I haven't had any problem with any version of iOS or iPadOS and Safari or Firefox that I can recall. You have cleared the browser cache of each browser, right? (This is just a prophylactic measure but it's always a good idea when things are going sideways.)

I don't recall you saying---can you select and play the Stereo Test file or any Internet radio stations?

ATM I'm using Firefox on my iPad to control a moOde 9.3.2 player on a Pi 5B with USB-attached SSD stick. Both iPad and moOde connected via 5 GHz WiFi to router/access point which supports both IPv4 and IPv6 locally and through to the Internet.

I can select and play tracks from the SSD without issue.

Sorry I can't be more specific.

Regards,
Kent

Thanks Kent, and yes, it'll play the stereo test file OK. I'm a bit Pi'd out at the moment so I'll try the radio stations tomorrow.

Edit… Had to try the radio, & that works fine with the iPad. But here's a strange thing! If I click on “Library” and select album instead of file, all the albums on the SSD come up & I can then play them… So it's something to do with iOS not now liking the file structure? Soon as I click on file, it all freezes again.

What this problem was I couldn't say, but I have managed to overcome, rather than solve the issue.

I dug out another small external HD, formatted it FAT32, and transferred a handful of music files over. After updating the Pi's library, it then played just fine. I then copied all the music files to my big HD, reformatted my original SSD drive, then transferred all the files back. Bingo! It now works just fine.

Who knows what the issue was…Love 'puters, me…

I used to work with an ex-helicopter pilot who ascribed all unexpected phenomena to the Coriolis effect.

Somehow, I don’t think that’s the reason here Big Grin
